ABOUT D.A. LIGON Brett Ligon was sworn in as the Montgomery County District Attorney on January 1, 2009.  Brett is committed to responsible, ethical and aggressive prosecution coupled with education, training and 24 hour a day support for local law enforcement.  Since then, Brett’s leadership and foresight have made this office one that the citizen’s can be proud of.  Please help Brett continue to make Montgomery County a place that is one of the safest in the nation and help Brett continue with his progressive crime fighting ways!

As your District Attorney, Brett is responsible for the effective and efficient prosecution of adult felony and misdemeanor offenses committed in Montgomery County.  Felonies include offenses punishable by death or confinement in prison or the State Jail.  Felonies include murder, robbery, sexual assault, burglary, intoxication manslaughter, and some major drug and theft offenses.  Misdemeanor offenses are generally less serious and are punishable by up to a year in the county jail.  Misdemeanor offenses include driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, burglary of a motor vehicle and simple assaults.  In addition to these cases, Brett has created specialized prosecution teams focusing on our biggest problems:  vehicular crimes, crime against children, drug dealing, and public integrity.  Brett’s prosecutors also prosecute traffic and other Class C offenses in the local Justice of the Peace Courts.

To facilitate the effective prosecution of these cases, the District Attorney hires Assistant District Attorneys, Investigators, and support personnel. The District Attorney also provides information and support to victims of crime through his Victim Witness Division.  Brett has implemented policies to ensure that our prosecutors are highly trained, ethical, and professions.  Brett has also brought in some of the state’s top prosecutors to assist in this endeavor.  As a result, Brett has made our county safer from the roads to the lake, from Magnolia to New Caney, and all places in between!  Let’s keep Montgomery County safe.
